Stump Grinding Jacksonville, FL
Removing the tree does not finish the job until the stump is removed too. We grind the stumps level below the grade so you can reseed or replant, or just walk around the yard without tripping over roots. Most of the time we grind the stumps the same day we remove the tree, you don't have to call and book another day.
Stumps can fight back especially from Live Oak's and Sabal palms. Oak roots grow wide. Palms have a fibrous root structure. We use commercial grade stump grinders and they do a good job on Florida hardwoods.

How We Grind Stumps
We first take a look at the size of the stump and roots and look for nearby obstacles like irrigation, electric or septic lines or fences. Then we grind the stump down about 4 to 6 inches below grade depending on if you will reseed in that area or plant a new tree. Depending on where we have your chips, we either haul them off or leave them for you as mulch. We grind a stump usually less than one hour. Some of the larger oak stumps and root structure will take longer especially around Mandarin and San Jose because the older Live oaks are very wide and the roots spread out 60 years.
And finally we do not leave a mess behind, we bag or haul off the debris or the wood chips and fill back in the stump grind so the area is ready to use.

Certified, Qualified & Insured
When a hazardous tree is leaning over your home, who does the work matters as much as the price. The crew that shows up is our own — a local, credentialed team that stays on the job from the first cut to the last. They arrive with the cranes and equipment we own and operate ourselves, so a big tree removal from the back yard or a low-hanging limb prune over the roof moves on your schedule and our standards. Our Team is led by an ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ tree-risk assessor, and each crane is set by CCO-certified crane operators, with full insurance. Once the tree is removed or trimmed, we finish it up by hauling the debris, and leaving your yard the way we found it.

Why Grind Instead of Leave It
Stumps left behind in the ground can attract termites and fungus. They can be a tripping hazard to children and can damage the blade of your lawnmower. Stumps take a very long time to naturally decay in humid climates and they can stay in the ground for years after a tree removal. It's easier and safer to grind the stump and clear the space for new landscaping.

Pricing and Scheduling
Once a tree comes down, the stump is what's left — and grinding it out is the natural last step of the tree removal job. What that costs depends on the size of the stump and its root spread, how much debris the grind throws off, and how easy the stump is to get to. A single Sabal palm is a very different grind than a mature oak with a 4-foot-diameter base. When you call for your estimate, just ask about stump grinding and we'll give you an accurate price.
The real savings come from doing it with the removal. If we're already on-site taking the tree down, there's no second service trip to pay for — we grind the stump while we're there, and bundling the two usually saves you money over booking it separately.
We do stump grinding with tree removal work in Jacksonville, Florida and the surrounding counties including Avondale, San Jose, Mandarin, San Marco, Riverside, Arlington, East Arlington, Beauclerc, Woodmere, Pickwick Park, St. Johns Bluff, Fort Caroline Shores, Atlantic Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, Palm Valley, Fernandina Beach, Yulee, and Julington Creek.

Frequently Asked Questions
How deep do you grind a stump?
We usually go 4 to 6 inches below grade. We can go deeper if you are planting a new tree in the same location. Just let us know.
Can you grind a stump without removing the tree first?
Yes we can. If you have a stump from a tree that fell down or was already removed by another company, we will grind the stump for you as a standalone job.
What happens to the wood chips?
We haul them off by default. If you want to keep them for mulch, let us know before we get started.
Do you grind palm stumps?
Yes we do. The root system of a Sabal palm is different from an oak's hardwood root. We grind all kinds of stumps with the appropriate machine.
Will grinding damage my irrigation lines or septic system?
We check before we grind for the location of underground utilities. You may have to tell us where you think your underground utilities are and we will work accordingly.
